Go Giants!

Hope everybody is getting ready for the BIG game today.

Although the Pats are favored, we all know the Giants will prevail in the end.

My son and I were going to make an attempt to attend the Super Bowl but found it extremely expensive. So we have made a pact to save our pennies so we can afford to go in the not so distant future.

Our employees are big Giants fans too!

Recipe for Mac 'n Cheese

Mac 'n Cheese Recipe

Ingredients:

1/2 lb. elbow macaroni

2 oz. butter

2 TB. flour

3 cups milk

1/2 to 3/4 lb. sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

1 tsp. dry mustard

1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

Salt & pepper to taste

2 oz. bread crumbs

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an oven-safe casserole dish.

Boil elbow macaroni for 5 minutes. Drain immediately, leave in colander.

Melt butter over low heat in a large saucepan.

Add flour, whisk until smooth.

Add milk, whisk often until smooth. Heat to just about boiling.

Add cheddar cheese, dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt & pepper to taste.

Combine sauce and macaroni. Spread evenly in oven-safe dish. Sprinkle bread crumbs over macaroni.

Place in oven, bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees F.

Personalize your own version of Mac 'n Cheese!

1. Substitute elbow macaroni with other types of pasta such as fusilli, bow ties, mostaccioli, wagon wheels, etc. Follow package directions for cooking time, do not overcook

2. Add a handful of finely chopped tomatos, onions, corn or other veggies.

3. Sprinkle with parsley, chives, paprika or other seasoning

Kitchen Ranges & BTU's

Ranges are an essential part of any kitchen. One of the most important features to look at when purchasing a gas range is the burners on the top of the range.


Today, most ranges have four or five burners with different BTU's - British Thermal Units - which are the units that measure the amount of heat energy needed to raise the tempurature of one pound of water by one degree Fahrenheit.

The BTU's on a range can vary from as high as 18,000 BTU to as low as 5,000 BTU. Naturally, the higher the BTU, the faster you can bring water to a boil.


The average range should have at least one 12,000 BTU burner (power boost), two 9,000 burners and one 5,000 burner.


Most of the 5,000 BTU low burners can go as low as 500 BTU which is perfect for melting butter or chocolate. 


The proper mix of the high and low BTU burners is important to fit your cooking needs. Come in to visit your local Derby Appliances store today and meet with a Derby associate to determine the best fit for your needs with regards to BTU's.
